According to Major Nelson, Peter Moore made an announcement in New York yesterday (06/11/2006) regarding agreements with media outlets to bring over 1,000 hours of standard and high definition content to the Xbox 360. The output of TV shows and movies to the Xbox 360 will begin on the anniversary of the console’s launch, November 22nd.

No doubt this is for the US only at the moment. Hopefully something will be along soon for other territories once the US market has been established.

The announcement didn’t come without its opponents, namely Sony, who have engaged in a tit-for-tat battle with Microsoft. Next-gen.biz has a statement from Sony berating Microsoft’s choice of 2 SKUs, one of which doesn’t have the ability to store the media that will be available. I think Sony have more pressing matters to worry about, like making diodes…
